I just received an email from Juan Plascencia of Santa Ana with some photos and words about singer Mitch Lucker from Suicide Silence.
Lucker died Thursday after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle crash in Huntington Beach Halloween night. (Huntington Beach Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash on Main Street to call 714-536-5666.)
Yesterday I worked on a story explaining how Suicide Silence impacted metal and what it was about Lucker’s voice that connected so many fans to him.
One of the things that keeps being repeated is that everyone who knew Lucker, whether here in the Inland Empire or fans around the world, knew him as a down-to-earth guy who was very loyal and appreciative of his fans, which brings me back to what Juan sent me this morning:
“I have been a loyal suicide silence fan since 2007 got to see them tear up stages, one of the best live bands that never disappointed. I was also lucky enough to meet Mitch a number of times before a show, after the show, and even out supporting local bands. He was very down to Earth and loved his fans so much, he would try to sign as and pose for pictures as much as he could to make sure all his fans went home happy. He inspired me to become a heavy metal vocalist and the first show I ever played I wore my Suicide Silence shirt to deliver like he would. It is a great loss to the metal scene and even tho I didn’t know him personally I feel like I lost a friend. Rest in peace Mitch Lucker.”
Here’s a photo of a 2010 Warped Tour ticket signed by Lucker that Juan also sent.
Here’s a little more of our coverage of this sad story over the last few days:
