It’s election eve and I want you to know that I am choosing the ’90s for tonight’s edition of the Audio Files.
Up first is Sponge, who had a hard-rocking radio hit with “Plowed,” but I prefer the poppier hit “Molly (Sixteen Candles).”
They also had an album with candy corn on the cover called “Rotting Pinata.” That was one of my favorite albums of the ’90s, because the cover was so memorable.
Actually, Sponge has two shows coming up–Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Whiskey in Los Angeles (21 and over, $12 in advance, $15 at the show) and Nov. 17 at the Ramona Soundstage in San Diego County $25).
My second track for your consideration tonight opens with a mention of the President, but I picked it because I felt like revisiting bands I saw on the radio festival circuit in the ’90s tonight (HFSTival forever, dude). Just wait until I bust out Dishwalla.
In all seriousness, I always preferred “Fire Escape” to Fastball’s bigger hit, “The Way.”
