For yesterday’s Audio Files I mentioned my love of Big Star and also mentioned how Paul Westerberg and The Replacements name-checked the band and named a song after its leader in “Alex Chilton.”
Speaking of The Replacements, the Gin Blossoms ended their show at the Fox in Riverside last week with “Can’t Hardly Wait.”
Here’s a double shot from a band I really hope will get back together for Coachella one of these days.
First, “Alex Chilton,” which you should just ignore the visuals of and rock out.
And “Can’t Hardly Wait.”
I am also a fan of Westerberg’s solo material and it holds a special place in my heart. When Charming Husband and I first started dating, I was impressed that he knew all of the songs on the “Singles” soundtrack, including Westerberg’s “Dyslexic Heart” and “Waiting For Somebody.”
They’re two songs we still go to today when we can’t find something we both agree on to listen to in the car. Here’s a live version of “Waiting For Somebody.”
