The sadly defunct Bay Area band Beulah. (Hayley Murphy/Contributed Image)
This week marks my sixth anniversary of moving to California and like a total cliche, there were two California-related songs I played a lot on my drive out from Maryland.
Billy Bragg and Wilco’s “California Stars,” off “Mermaid Avenue,” was one of the songs I listened to and still do.
The other song that still reminds me of just heading west is Beulah’s “Gene Autry.”
When I got to California, I eventually wrote my name in the sand.
