The very first Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival I covered back in 2007 had an eclectic mix of headliners–the newly reunited Rage Against the Machine, arena staples Red Hot Chili Peppers and the mistress of eccentricity, Bjork.
I remember it seeming a little something like It’s a Small World at Disneyland came to life with costumes.
Now it looks like Iceland’s eclectic indie queen might be making another run at Indio for Coachella 2013.
She hinted in a recent interview with The Independent that she will be on the West Coast of the U.S. for a tour in the spring.
The twin Coachellas are set for the Empire Polo Club in Indio April 12-14 and April 19-21, 2013. The pre-sale tickets have been long gone, but there are generally more released once promoter Goldenvoice announces the lineup (traditionally in mid-late January).
If you’re just joining us, welcome. My name is Vanessa Franko and I’ve covered seven Coachellas (six years, seven fests). It’s probably my favorite assignment. I like to think of this pre-announcement guessing time as Coachellaology, kind of like Bracketology in NCAA March Madness.
Here’s a look at previous predictions from myself, colleagues and our readers:
The first round of predictions: Mumford and Sons, Deadmau5, Blur and Local Natives.
Round two: The obligatory Daft Punk prediction, plus The Stone Roses, Watch the Throne, Depeche Mode and Eminem.
Third round: Nine Inch Nails/How to Destroy Angels, Queens of the Stone Age, Run DMC, Rocket from the Crypt reunion and Passion Pit.
Fourth round: Sigur Ros and Pearl Jam, the latter celebrating 20 years since the band’s 1993 show at the Empire Polo Club for promoter Goldenvoice that planted the Coachella seed.
The latest update was earlier this week, when I made predictions on Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Tegan and Sara, as well as a far-flung guess with hardcore band Converge.
The folks over at Consequence of Sound have a really solid predictions/rumors page going, too. They also do it for festivals beyond Coachella.
You can find all kinds of goodies over at the iGuide Coachella page and tell me in the comments below if you think Bjork is a slam dunk for Coachella or if her West Coast dates will be completely different.
