2012 continues to blow my mind when it comes to local music.
La Vice, which isn’t exactly local but features Riverside native Chris Qualls (of Electric Valentine, A Kiss Could Be Deadly) released its debut EP earlier in November.
While Electric Valentine has more of a electro-pop vibe, La Vice has a gritter rock sound that you can still dance to. I kind of liken it to what would happen if you locked The Strokes in a dungeon. The band’s music has that catchiness, but also a dark, edgy undercurrent.
Here’s the video the band made for single “Dancing on the Rio,” which was funded by a Kickstarter campaign a few months back. There are handclaps in the song. I really love handclaps.
Qualls’ other band, Electric Valentine, has a show coming up with the Street Drum Corps on Thursday, Dec. 13 at The Viper Room in Hollywood, too.
