AUDIO FILES: Listen to Richard Marx

If you didn’t see my admission of being a Wham! aficionado yesterday, I’m spending part of this month using Audio Files to highlight my favorite holiday (yes, not just Christmas) songs.

Today’s entry from Richard Marx. I just heard the song “Christmas Spirit,” but the wacky video of cameos makes it a must-watch. I kind of love the idea of people like Rick Springfield lip-synching with their dog to a Richard Marx Christmas song. It’s kind of like that feature in US Weekly where they talk about celebrities being just like us.

I really don’t know what I love the most about this video–the mulleted promo photo of Marx circa 1988 singing, Kenny Loggins creepily singing in a bed or the David Copperfield spectacle. Can you name all of the cameos?

Yahoo! has an interview with Marx about the video, too.

I’ve also just started following Marx on Twitter. It might have been what was missing in my life. He’s hilarious.

Now, say what you want about Marx, but he’s an incredible songwriter and has written for artists including Luther Vandross, Kenny Rogers and Keith Urban in addition to his own collection of hits.

The song that makes me bust out my Molly Ringwald dance is “Should’ve Known Better.”

So while this isn’t my favorite Marx hit, it has the best video, a story of love, deception and…murder (cue dramatic music).

Charming Husband and I then went into a discussion of “Hazard” versus Warrant’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” where there are more bodies in the water.

And if that’s not disturbing enough for you…there’s this photo:

Wham! The other outtakes from the “Last Christmas” single are even more disturbing. (Contributed Image)
