AUDIO FILES: Listen to Billy Squier

There really aren’t enough blogs out there talking about Billy Squier. I’m aiming to change that today.

You know what the guitarist taught me? He taught me that Christmas is the time to say “I love you.” And for all of you kids who don’t remember Nina Blackwood, Martha Quinn and the glory days of MTV, here you go. (Speaking of that, Martha Quinn is so on my bucket list of people to interview and a bonus like to all of you who can name the rest of the original MTV VJs).

Here’s what Squier himself had to say about the video via his website:

“This song also gained prominence as the first MTV “in-house” video production, directed by…you guessed it, The Artist Himself. I took the honors by default, as no one at MTV had the slightest idea of what needed to be done, and I’d at least been through the motions enough to understand the basics. I remember it being a bit silly, but we all had a good time!”

I always have a good time watching Billy Squier videos. Just like when Kevin Bacon gets so angry in “Footloose” where he just has to dance it out, I feel the same way about Squier’s “Rock Me Tonite.” Sometimes you just have to sashay and play an air guitar to get it all out.

All kidding aside, I love Squier’s guitar playing and “Everybody Wants You” is one of my all-time favorite guitar riffs.

Want to know what other songs have made my holiday list? Below the Wham! Christmas photo you can keep up with all of the other artists I’ve been writing about this month:
