AUDIO FILES: Listen to Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney, surprised that anyone is admitting their love for “Wonderful Christmastime.” (AP Photo)

I have a confession: I love Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime.” I love the goofy synths, the lyrics, the choir of children singing their song, ding-dong, ding-dong. And even if you don’t like the song, I love the video because it shows Paul with Linda together and it has crazy animated graphics not seen since Pink Floyd Laser Light shows dominated Saturday nights at a planetarium near you.

For today’s other songs I’m going with strictly McCartney solo work, no Wings, no Beatles, no Fireman.

“My Brave Face” from 1989 is one of my favorites from McCartney’s underrated “Flowers in the Dirt.” Fun fact: The album was a collaboration with Elvis Costello.

McCartney’s first solo album, “McCartney,” is another favorite of mine. While the live version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” gets the most airplay, there’s something a little more emotionally raw in McCartney’s vocals on the studio version that I really love, too.

McCartney is supposed to appear on the 12-12-12 concert Wednesday for Superstorm Sandy relief. Rumor has it he may be showing up with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic and essentially McCartney will replace Kurt Cobain in Nirvana for the night, according to The Sun. I won’t believe it until I see it, though.
