Diane A. Rhodes, one of our longtime contributors here at The Press-Enterprise has a pretty amazing assignment last weekend–she followed Eagles of Death Metal on a holiday shopping trip with local kids. I’m not making this up.

Band frontman Jesse Hughes and guitarist Eden Galindo teamed up with the Banning Police Activities League to take kids shopping at a Wal Mart Supercenter in Beaumont.

The event was hosted by the Banning and Beaumont Police Departments.

Hughes is from the Coachella Valley and is a childhood friend of Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, who hails from Palm Desert. Homme is also a sometimes member of Eagles of Death Metal. Hughes also records under the moniker Boots Electric and is the only subject I ever interviewed who called me “baby.”
