Good morning. The Coachella 2013 hype is growing ever louder and NME over in England has a report that Daft Punk, The Rolling Stones, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Phoenix are playing the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
UPDATE DEC. 20: Songkick says it wasn’t a leak, just bad data from a user and is now turning off all user-editing tools for the time-being.
Mixmag first reported that people subscribed to Songkick received an email listing those bands for Coachella 2013 and according to NME, Songkick has since removed the information, citing it as unconfirmed and posted in error. (Thanks to Audio File reader Emmy J for the link!)
Rumors about The Rolling Stones have been flying since a Coachella date appeared on the band’s mobile app last week.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival dates for 2013 are April 12-14 and April 19-21 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.
Daft Punk tops the rumor list every year, (heck, I even posted about the possibility of Daft Punk at Coachella months ago), but with a new album coming in 2013, it makes the helmeted French DJ duo a viable rumor.
Phoenix has been a band I was thinking about for a while. It’s been a couple of years since the band was last at Coachella and I know they’ve been working on new material. I have the same reasoning about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, except I’m a little more confident because they officially announced Spring 2013 as the release time for the album.
While these artists are all likely candidates for Coachella 2013, I don’t know how Songkick gets its info so I don’t feel confident in saying that Daft Punk is playing near my house, my house, just yet.
What do you think? Are these bands going to play or is it just someone’s wish list that got sent to the masses? Let me know in the comments below.
Want more Coachella 2013 predictions? I tag all of mine Coachellaology.
Quick catch-up if you’re just joining us: I’ve covered Coachella since 2007 and I posted my first round of predictions, my opening bracket for Coachellaology, if you will, a couple of months ago. The first round of predictions: Mumford and Sons, Deadmau5, Blur and Local Natives. Then, Audio File readers got into the act and second round included the obligatory Daft Punk prediction, plus The Stone Roses, Watch the Throne, Depeche Mode and Eminem. Third round: Nine Inch Nails/How to Destroy Angels, Queens of the Stone Age, Run DMC, Rocket from the Crypt reunion and Passion Pit. Fourth round: Sigur Ros and Pearl Jam, the latter celebrating 20 years since the band’s 1993 show at the Empire Polo Club for promoter Goldenvoice that planted the Coachella seed. Then I posted about Nick Cave, Tegan and Sara and Converge. Last week, I predicted the Airborne Toxic Event, too, plus wrote about The Rolling Stones after that date showed up on their app.
