AUDIO FILES: Listen to Tom Petty

Tom Petty rocks. Tom Petty at Christmas is even better.

I first heard “Christmas All Over” on “A Very Special Christmas 2,” and was pulled in by its drum intro.

But my love for Tom Petty goes back way before this. The first memory I have of Petty is the “Alice in Wonderland”-inspired video for “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” which even includes Dave Stewart (who made an appearance on the Audio Files Christmas list last week with the Eurythmics) as the caterpillar!

I was both amazed and disturbed by Alice being turned into a cake at the end.

My parents had a jukebox in their restaurant/bar in Atlanta and one of the first albums I remember that was on the new CD jukebox was “Full Moon Fever” and “Free Fallin'” was my go-to track.

However, there is one Tom Petty song that ranks above all others and might make it into my top 25 favorite songs of all time.

It’s “American Girl,” which also appears in one of my favorite movies–“Fast Times at Ridgemont High.”

Wham! The other outtakes from the “Last Christmas” single are even more disturbing. (Contributed Image)
