COACHELLA 2013: Lineup logic includes Infected Mushroom, Dr. Dog

As we wait for the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival lineup to be released (check out my post with charts based on the historical data of the Coachella lineup release), I’ve been keeping an eye on tours that might give us some more lineup clues.

Coachella 2013 will have the twin weekend format again and run April 12-14 and April 19-21 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. I tag all of my Coachella prediction posts Coachellaology.

Infected Mushroom
After some tour dates on the East Coast through February, Israeli electronic act Infected Mushroom has announced a sole West Coast date in San Francisco on April 20 at the Regency Ballroom.
They are doing the “FungusAmongUs” 3D visual tour. Coachella is known for having some spectacular visuals from EDM artists. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them on the lineup at all. They also played Coachella in 2010.
And, according to Pollstar, it looks like that San Francisco date has just been added within 24 hours of Jan. 10.

Dr. Dog
Dr. Dog has dates on the West Coast just after Coachella, including April 26 in Seattle and April 28 in Portland, Ore. They’re playing those dates with Coachella 2012 vet Dawes. Not sure if we’ll see Dawes on back-to-back years (that’s super rare for Coachella), but Dr. Dog is a logical addition to the lineup.

The next two artists I want to include don’t have West Coast dates announced just yet, but I think they’re strong candidates to appear at Coachella.

Frank Turner
Frank Turner hasn’t announced any U.S. dates for 2013 yet, but he has the Coachella dates open after playing some Australian festivals. He is an artist gaining momentum who first appeared on the Coachella lineup in 2010. He opened on the Saturday and it was awesome. I really want to see him come back.

Dropkick Murphys
The Dropkick Murphys released a new album this week, “Signed and Sealed in Blood.” New material is always a plus for Coachella. Plus, there are always a couple of punk bands that land on the lineup. The band’s U.S. tour this year (which includes a stint of St. Patty’s Day shows in Boston) misses the West Coast, but they are playing the same fests as Frank Turner in Australia. Plus, they have a date scheduled for Hawaii on April 6. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them resume their U.S. tour on the West Coast after that and stop in Indio.

I’ve covered the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival since 2007.
