One bright side about waiting for the 2013 Coachella lineup is hearing from readers on who their picks and wish lists include. Seriously, it’s really fun to hear from people who are as into this as I am. (And if you didn’t see it, here are the charts I made with the lineup release data from previous years).

Here’s a fresh batch of reader predictions and if you want to tell us who you think will headline the festival, you can win a gift card for camping gear. All of my Coachella prediction/wish list/rumor posts are tagged Coachellaology.

Big Boi
Matt Guillermo commented with some rap picks today, too, including Big Boi, A$AP ROCKY and Kendrick Lamar. Of those, Big Boi is releasing a new album so I think he’s the most likely (and a Pop Matters interview hinted at it). Both A$AP Rocky And Kendrick Lamar played Coachella in 2012 and the festival tends to not have repeat artists. That being said, someone else mentioned Black Hippy in the comments of one of the stories.

Lamar is in Black Hippy and they are playing Paid Dues a couple of weeks before Coachella. Usually that’s not something you see, but Paid Dues co-promoter Guerilla Union and Coachella promoter Goldenvoice have a strong relationship and artists have done both, like Lamar in 2012.

Spiritualized
Carl Gorenberg commented earlier today with a suggestion of Spiritualized, who are “Playing west coast that week without an LA performance.”

Consequence of Sound reported Spiritualized’s plans for a North American tour that was subsequently scaled back to the West Coast and dates so far make it appear that there’s room for twin Coachellas.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Bryan Quinn sent me an email suggesting Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The band is releasing a new album and wraps its European tour just before Coachella 2013 and kicks off its North American tour in San Francisco April 22, just after weekend two of Coachella and also has a date in San Diego on April 23, but none announced for Los Angeles.

I think if BRMC isn’t playing Coachella, they have to be taking that time off to go and hang out at the Empire Polo Club for fun.

Paul Simon
Molly from Long Beach wants to know if Paul Simon is a possibility for Coachella being that it’s the 25th anniversary of “Graceland.” She said he is booked for two international festivals this spring (one in Singapore and one in Australia).
“I know that if the Rolling Stones are really playing it is unlikely that a second ‘old white dude musician’ will play, but can’t a girl hope to see her all time favorite album played?”

I haven’t even thought about this one until Molly emailed, but I think “Graceland” would go over really, really well at Coachella. Wouldn’t it be great to have him up there with Vampire Weekend (who is releasing a new album and has been batted around as a Coachella name)?

I’ve covered the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival since 2007.
