COACHELLA 2013: Muse less likely for lineup, opener Biffy Clyro possible

A little while back, I posted about the possibility of Muse returning to headline Coachella 2013.

However, with the band’s new tour schedule, they’re looking really unlikely to top the bill of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival April 12-14 and April 19-21.

Muse, who headlined in 2010, originally had April 13 and 14 open, but now the band has added a Connecticut show on April 13, leaving April 14th as the only date for the first weekend of Coachella.

As reader Steve Lundberg pointed out:
“Muse has a show Sat April 13th in CT. Their only weekend one day would be Sunday 14th, with east coast shows on Saturday and Monday. That seems an unlikely trip.

However, their opening act, Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro, aren’t announced on that 4/13 show giving them Sat and Sun of both Coachella weekends open. Biffy is huge in the Europe, have a new album coming out, and primed to explode into US market. Squeezing Coachella into the tour with Muse, for Biffy, would be a really smart move. I could be wrong, but I hope I’m right.”

Steve, hasn’t been the only one to mention Biffy Clyro. Melissa Lawson has been hoping they’d be on the lineup since December.

The band played Epicenter in Fontana a few years back and they have a new album, “Opposites,” due out March 12 in the U.S.

I interviewed bassist James Johnston back in 2010 for Epicenter, and one of the things we talked about was Palm Desert native Joshua Homme, of Queens of the Stone Age fame, joining them to play guitar on the song “Bubbles.”

“It was a bit of a dream come true. He’s a bit of a musical hero of ours and somebody who has had great success and has written a lot of great records,” Johnston said back then.

Here’s hoping both Johnston and Homme are on the Coachella 2013 lineup.
