COACHELLA 2013: Rumor roundup with the Rolling Stones, the Smiths

I think I’m through the Coachella looking glass, that point when anything sounds possible, like drinking a cracker. Heck, maybe Sly Stone will be back. Wait, that will never happen. Maybe I haven’t totally lost it yet.

That being said, here are rumors and general Coachella wackiness that has been showing up in my inbox:

Have wild horses dragged Mick and the boys away?
-According to L.A. Weekly’s West Coast Sound blog, The Rolling Stones are out for Coachella 2013. The report cites unnamed industry sources who didn’t want to be identified.

Since I inadvertently freaked people out with my question about a polo ball that the iGuide staff concluded was a stone on the Empire Polo Field and was convinced Coachella was sending us secret messages, I have no idea what to believe any more, except that my Cheerios’ secret message to me is still “ooooo.”

Does this change who you think will headline 2013 or do you not trust “sources”? On a kind of, sort of, related topic, tell us who you want to see headline Coachella 2013 and you could win a gift card for camping gear.

The queen’s not dead, but a Smiths reunion is
-Also, apparently Morrissey has revealed through a spokesman to Huff Post UK that The Smiths turned down an offer to reunite at Coachella 2013. To this I say: Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

Speaking of The Smiths, MTV posted a fake Coachella lineup and while I couldn’t get past them not using the right font, props for the Inland Empire shoutout of naming The Smiths (a nice family from San Bernardino) as their fake headliner.

Bombs over collabs
-Andre 3000 has stepped away from the mirror and that weird styling razor he and Adrian Brody love so much to explain that although he AND Big Boi both appear on the Frank Ocean song “Pink Matter,” it is NOT an Outkast reunion, as Dre explained to Spin.

Does this mean like Morrissey and friends Dre is taking a page from Taylor Swift and Outkast is never, ever, ever getting back together? I only bring it up since people keep asking me about Outkast at Coachella 2013.

The ticket Twilight Zone
-All of a sudden, on Thursday afternoon, right when I came back from lunch, I head messages from a reader in Ireland asking me why I didn’t post about VIP tickets going on sale. I saw a random message pop up on the Coachella Facebook page about it and another on the forum.
Reader Federico writes:
“I did not receive any warning or notification. I was leaving the office – I randomly refreshed the page – noticed the VIP tickets – bought them.
When I got home I checked the page for curiosity and everything was gone.”

Anyone else see it?

Lineup waiting game
Lots of folks have been asking me about the lineup release–sadly, I have nothing to report and I’m not a member of Dionne Warwick’s Psychic Friends Network (Is that still around?). Goldenvoice releases the lineup when the lineup is ready. However, I’m a big Coachella nerd and I did plot previous years’ lineup releases. Maybe my charts can help you win the office pool or something. (Disclaimer: The Audio File does not condone Coachella-related gambling.)

I’ve covered the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival since 2007. All of the Coachella prediction posts here are tagged with Coachellaology.
