Here’s a Coachella 2013 lineup prediction for you this morning from a reader across the pond–Susan Quilligan from Loughborough, Leicestershire, U.K. passed on a tip about The Selecter:
“I’ve heard that pioneering 2-tone band The Selecter will be @Coachella as part of their West Coast US tour this year in April. they have US dates planned around the Coachella weekends. Date on www.theselecter.net Just a thought, don’t know how much they mean in America.”
Coachella has brought out a number of ska acts in the past, most recently Madness in 2012 (which is still one of my favorite sets in recent years).
Pauline Black, the band’s frontwoman who is generally regarded as the Queen of Ska, reunited with the rest of the group back in 2010.
The band announced via its website that the first U.S. Selecter tour in a decade will run April 12-April 21, which fits into the Coachella time frame. (The twin Coachellas are set for the Empire Polo Club in Indio April 12-14 and April 19-21).
Also, if you go to the tour dates page on the band’s website, they write that the U.S. tour specifics won’t be announced until January, which is when Coachella announces its lineup.
If you want to know when Coachella has announced its lineups in the past, check out the charts I made with frequency on days of the week and historical dates data.
Here’s something to keep you entertained while we wait, The Selecter doing “On My Radio.”
I’ve covered the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival since 2007. All of the Coachella prediction posts here are tagged with Coachellaology.
