COACHELLA 2013: How does the Facebook popularity correlate to billing?

Now this is the coolest Coachella-related infographic I’ve seen yet. The folks over at JESS3 took all of the Coachella 2013 artists and looked at their “Likes” on Facebook to see how it related to where they were listed on the poster and driving ticket sales.

The broke down the list of artists into “tiers,” or lines on the poster.

From the JESS3 post: The Red Hot Chili Peppers trump every other festival band with over 20m certified Facebook Likes. Phoenix and Blur also appear in top 10%. Only the Stone Roses don’t make it into the over-a-million-fans club.

Since the last time The Stone Roses toured the U.S. was nearly 20 years ago, and they only reunited a few years ago, it’s not shocking to see them below a number of other acts. Even though some Coachella attendees weren’t born when the band had its heyday, they’re still a fit for the longtime Coachella fans. It’s a high-profile Britpop reunion and it’s going to be epic.

I’m really impressed by some of the numbers of the EDM artists on the bill. Paul Oakenfold is a legend, but he has less than half of Excision’s Facebook fans and less than 25 percent of what Paul Kalkbrenner has.

I would love to see if the infographic still holds up as we get closer to Coachella. I don’t think you’re going to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers lose their top spot, but as some acts break closer to the festival, we might see some movement.

Did any of the numbers compared to poster real estate surprise you?
