Today’s Audio Files features two blues-influenced artists out of the greater Los Angeles area who are both playing the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Up first is Deap Vally, a duo out of the San Fernando Valley who have the howling blues-rock chops like a two-piece Led Zeppelin. And the members, Julie Edwards and Lindsey Troy, met at a crocheting class and bonded over their love of blues. Don’t be turned off by how Pitchfork that sounds, they’re really great.
And another blues artist playing Coachella 2013 is Los Angeles’ Hanni El Khatib, who’s version of “You Rascal You” has been stuck in my head for months. His latest album was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.
