We are less than two weeks away from the kickoff of the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The fest is always full of surprises, most notably in 2012, it was the lifelike Tupac Shakur hologram that appeared during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s set that stunned everyone.
In that spirit, here are five ideas for more holograms that could up the ante with the 2013 Coachella Festival lineup.
1. Ian Curtis with New Order
The whole reason New Order came into being is that the members of Joy Division weren’t done making music when singer Ian Curtis committed suicide. If hologram Ian Curtis shows up for “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” Twitter might explode.

2. ODB with Wu-Tang Clan.
I take back what I just said about an Ian Curtis hologram making Twitter explode. ODB with Wu-Tang Clan would create enough social media buzz to power a developing nation and possibly destroy an asteroid headed for Earth.
You could actually have multiple ODB holograms with his 20 different names–Ason Unique, Osirus, Rainman, Big Baby Jesus, and Dirt McGirt. You could have an army of ODB holograms. It would be kind of epic. And then Quentin Tarantino could film it for a fight scene in “Kill Bill Vol. 3,” because it would be amazing.
Still, R.I.P. O.D.B. He was on Pras and Mya’s “Ghetto Superstar,” which takes me back to high school. Also, it’s probably the least explicit track ODB was ever on.
3. Lou Reed
Lou Reed was actually supposed to play Coachella 2013, but last week he dropped off the lineup and canceled his other California dates around the fest. Why not have him in hologram form? Bonus points if the bassist on this killer intro to “Sweet Jane” is created, too.
4. Morrissey
Hologram Morrissey won’t complain about the burning flesh at the Empire Polo Club like real Morrissey did a few years back. We can beam in hologram Morrissey for Johnny Marr’s set and get a mini reunion of The Smiths going.
5. Daft Punk with Phoenix
OK, so Daft Punk says they aren’t playing Coachella, but maybe it’s because Daft Punk holograms will play Coachella instead.
And since Daft Punk has performed with Saturday-night headliner Phoenix live at Madison Square Garden, I’m going with that as the perfect spot to drop in some Daft Punk hologram action.
