After going on more than 25 minutes late, The Shouting Matches, the blues band of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, finally got things going in the Gobi Tent Friday afternoon.
The band’s album is coming out Tuesday. I loved the organ, Spencer Davis meets Booker T sound, I just wished they had stuck to the schedule.
I bugged out to see Jake Bugg next door at the Mojave Tent. Audio File Reader Jason Bowen has recommended him to me since before the lineup came out.
It was a rambling, moody homage to roots of rock. I heard some influence of Bob Dylan, Memphis, Moody Blues and The Beatles in there. While he is a solid player, I don’t think he brought of flash and stage presence. He is a young newcomer, but I look forward to seeing how he develops.
I liked his country-inspired sings the most.
