Just had a chance to talk with Ken Casey of the Dropkick Murphy’s, one of my all-time favorite bands. I think I’ve seen them about 15 times in non-work environments.
Casey even told me I’m the only interviewer here who has been on stage with the band. (2003, St. Patty’s Day, the Avalon on Lansdowne in Boston, FYI)
This is the band’s first time at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, but they have played festivals around the world. They actually just played the Byron Bay Blues Fest in Australia last week.
“It’s the premier U.S. festival,” Casey said.
He said the band has played such diverse festivals, that they don’t try to cater to the festival crowd, but rather try to show off all of the aspects of the band.
Considering the band’s evolution and giant catalogue, that’s no small feat, either.
Fun fact: The band keeps all of its set lists and tries to do different songs the next time they get to town.
The new record, “Signed and Sealed in Blood,” is great and I can’t wait to hear how it sounds live.
