Portugal. The Man wants you to listen to more Weezer.

So John Gourley announced midway through the bands’s show at Coachella on Saturday night. He tried to make that happen, ending one of the first songs, “Everything You See (Kids Count Hallelujahs),” with a few bars of “Say it Ain’t So.”

The set turned out to be the perfect transition from day to night, energetic but chill in the way only Coachella sunset shows can be. Fans got a preview of some material from the upcoming album “Evil Friends.” And there was a fiddle on stage, and you can never go wrong with a fiddle on stage.

An audible boo went up from the crowd when Gourley announced the band had only one more song to play. They made the most of it with “Sleep Forever,” and a final outro of “Hey Jude” that had just about every arm in view in the air.

Perfect.
