Local Natives had its big coming out party a couple of years ago in a tent at the 2010 Coachella Festival.

With “Gorilla Manor,” the band became one of the buzziest out of SoCal.

Now, with follow-up, “Hummingbird,” Local Natives landed the sunset set at Coachella 2013 on the Outdoor Theatre stage, my favorite time slot at the entire festival.

“I’m still in awe of the time slot we got,” said drummer Matt Frazier, who hails from Chino Hills.

He said the band had tour dates in between the twin Coachellas so they didn’t get to enjoy it last weekend but that they would be staying through weekend two.

The band, which has been growing in popularity, had the right mix of groove and moodiness as the first day of Coachella 2 turned into night.

From the stage, the band profusely thanked the audience, talking about how much the set means to them before ending with “Sun Hands,” which brought the crowd to a fever pitch.
