COACHELLA 2013: Supporting Boston with the Dropkick Murphys

The beginning of the Dropkick Murphys’ Coachella Festival weekend two set started with “For Boston” as a flag with the city’s seal behind waved behind them. It was one of the most emotionally charged sets I’ve seen at the festival.

It set a tone of resilience at the Empire Polo Club for the Boston band, who raised upward of $100,000 to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings on Monday, April 17and their family

This weekend we noticed more patriotism in Coachella attire, including a number of people decked out in American flag bandanas and hats.

The Dropkick Murphys sent a message with the set, which included “The State of Massachusetts” and “Going Out In Style.”

“A big thank you to everyone who has shown so much incredible support on behalf of Boston,” Ken Casey said on stage before dedicating “Your Spirit’s Alive” to everyone supporting the city.
