Here’s a look at how we spent our Saturday at weekend two of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. We tried to hit different things than last week.

Trash Talk
The Sacramento hardcore band is where I started my day and it didn’t disappoint, with possibly the most brutal set I’ve seen at Coachella that included singer Lee Spielman spending most of the set with us in the audience. It was also the most un-hardcore set I saw since it included a hello to a grandparent and a round of “Happy Birthday.”

Dropkick Murphys
The band honored their hometown of Boston by opening their afternoon set with “For Boston” and had a flag with the city’s seal waving behind them. They also thanked the crowd and everyone for their support of Boston through this week, when the Boston Marathon was bombed. Read more about the Dropkick Murphys.
Yeasayer
Yeasayer is so polite. It was kind of like e end of a flight when a flight attendant thanks you for choosing the airline–Yeasayer acknowledged all of the great music at Coachella and thanked the crowd for choosing them. See photos of Yeasayer from weekend one.

Violent Femmes
It was kind of great to see the band do their debut album in its entirety and have e crowd song along to “Kiss Off.” Thankfully, they sounded much better than the last time I saw them, in Boston in 2000. See photos of Violent Femmes from weekend one.
Descendents
The Descendents are so punk rock that the VIP viewing area had a mosh pit, started by the singer of Trash Talk. California punk shines again on the Outdoor Theatre. Read more about the Descendents.

Allen Stone
Remember when Beck did “Debra” on the “Midnite Vultures” album and it was so smooth and sensual and amazing? Multiply that by 100 and you have Allen Stone. He has the best voice at Coachella and is a star on the rise.
Sigur Ros
Lots of pretty lightbulbs adorned their stage, but I had no idea what they were saying. However, I did enjoy the Pom Pom flair on their jackets and the wall of sound they were creating. See photos of Sigur Ros at Coachella 2013 weekend two.
New Order
Bernard Sumner still has the voice, but his dance moves are kind of like Rave Dad. But then again, so we’re most of ours in the audience. Ending with Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” was sublime.

Franz Ferdinand
Can someone explain to us why they were in the Mojave Tent and not on the main stage? They were great. Check out what Charlotte had to say about the show.
