Social Distortion’s Sunday evening set as the sunshine rallied one last time over the masses at the Empire Polo Club was 50 minutes of California at the state (and the country’s) premier music festival.
With staples like “Mommy’s Little Monster” and “Story Of My Life” ringing from the main stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Social Distortion became the kings of California, punkers who have become iconic rock legends.
Singer and guitarist Mike Ness was stimulating the Riverside County economy, too.
“I was able to weasel a vacation out of this,” Ness told the crowd.
He spent the week in Palm Springs poolside.
He explained that Social D grew up listening to the Stones and the Beatles and then the Pistols and the Ramones and a little bit of Johnny Cash, too before closing with their cover of “Ring of Fire.”
