STAGECOACH 2013: Fewer medical emergencies than normal

Press-Enterprise cops reporter Rich Brooks spoke to the nursing supervisor at JFK Memorial Hospital just down the road from the Stagecoach Country Music Festival grounds in Indio, which is where fans who get sick or injured are taken.

Since Friday, the hospital has seen 29 medical emergencies, mostly dehydration and heat exhaustion, which nursing supervisor Steve Williams said was better than last year, possibly because people are being hydrated at a medical tent on site.

Beer and lots of sun aren’t always a good combination, but Williams said they hadn’t had a lot of alcohol-related cases this year.

“But it’s 106 (degrees),” Williams added, “so we don’t know what we’ll see tonight.”
