UPDATE 5/20/2013: Click for information on Coachella 2014 dates.

If you’ve been missing dancing in the desert at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, you can start looking forward to something new as of Monday, May 20.

On Friday, May 17, the festival posted a photo of “Helix Poeticus,” a.k.a. the Coachella Snail, on its website and social media netowrks with the words “Monday, May 20 10 a.m. PDT.”

For the last two years, Goldenvoice has announced its following year’s Coachella a few weeks after the festivals have wrapped at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. With those announcements of the next year’s dates, there is usually pre-sale information as well.

As soon as we have the info, it will be posted at the iGuide Coachella page.

Based on that, I think we’ll be getting the dates for the 2014 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, but I think there are a couple of other possibilities in the mix, too.

We could be hearing if the S.S. Coachella will be returning, although Goldenvoice announced last year’s maiden voyage later in the summer, or we could hear about an expansion to Coachella into the fall. The city of Indio approved Goldenvoice to hold an additional two festivals in the fall. However, knowing how much planning the company undergoes for the twin Coachellas and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival, I think we’re more likely to see that next year.

There is something interesting that reader Chris Dillon brought to my attention on Twitter yesterday–apparently the Lollapalooza Brazil 2014 dates are April 18-20, which would land in what has been the timing of Coachella’s second weekend for the last two years.

I’d be really surprised if Coachella’s dates changed, but I am thinking we’ll find out on Monday. If it goes anywhere, I think maybe we see Coachella move a week earlier, so acts could play Coachella and Lolla Brazil. That would put Stagecoach on that April 18-20 weekend and it wouldn’t conflict with Easter or the White Party in the desert. However, by moving it a week earlier you’re now competing with The Dinah in Palm Springs.

I highly doubt we’d see Coachella 1, Stagecoach, Coachella 2 because the configuration of the field is so different.

Honestly, the most likely scenario I see is that bands doing Lollapalooza Brazil on Friday could feasibly play Coachella on Sunday and bands playing Coachella on Friday could play Lolla Brazil on Sunday.
