COACHELLA 2014: View our interactive festival artist map

Explore our 2014 interactive Coachella Festival artist map.

During two weekends in April, more than 160 artists will descend upon the Empire Polo Club for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (set for April 11-13 and April 18-20) and they hail from around the globe.

If you want to know about the bands and the music, explore our interactive map below.

If you select a point on the map that has a cluster of artists, such as around Los Angeles or London, you can flip through the artists by clicking the forward arrow in the top right of the pop-up that appeared with the band’s information.

RIVERSIDE: Sonnie Babble to perform at the Common Ground

It’s the Common Ground is back on Sunday with a whole new roster of emerging talent. Among the artists performing is Sonnie Babble, a teen who is gaining a lot of traction in the local hip-hop scene.

He released a new album at the end of 2013 and has been one of the promising rappers that’s part of the Uproar crew.

Sunday’s show is the first time the beloved even is going all ages. It’s also a daytime show from 4 to 9 p.m.

Reverie, CLDMKRS, WAJU, Locally Grown Collective, Fitz Taylor and ehwhenkeem are among the performers.

MUSIC: Kenny Rogers talks photography

Kenny Rogers isn’t just one of the biggest country artists of all-time, he’s also an accomplished photographer.

In January, the Professional Photographers of America presented Rogers with an honorary master’s at the association’s annual convention in Phoenix, where he spoke before the 10,000 attendees.

“I told them I have a new category for all of the psychologists: ‘I’m an impulsive obsessive,’” he said. “I impulsively get involved with something and then I’m obsessed with it.”

Similarly, he became interested in tennis 40 years ago and took a tennis pro with him on the road and they would play tennis pros in every city he toured in and would play eight hours each day, ultimately ending up with a ranking in the national charts as a doubles player.

“That’s kind of my personality. Once I find out I can do something, I start thinking how well I could do it if I really tried,” Rogers said.

He took a couple of pictures and people commented that he was a great photographer. He told them he wasn’t a great photographer but went to great places.

“You can stand and shoot pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge with your camera, but the difference between a snapshot and a photograph is where you take it from,” he said.

“If you want to shoot the Golden Gate Bridge, you can take your telephone and shoot a picture of it, but if you want to take a photograph you have to get down lower and find some angles that make the shot more interesting and that’s what you learn as you do it.”

Rogers shoots with a digital Nikon 3X.

“I think digital has taken photography to a whole new dimension, and it’s just so much more exciting,” he said.

Rogers has published three books of his photography, including a book of portraits of stars such as Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson, and has an idea for his next one.

“I’m going to calling it ‘Chasing the Light.’ Great photographers, there’s a 5 or 10 minute window at night where the light is really wonderful and if you miss it, you miss it, so you have to be there and prepare for it and wait for it,” he said.

REDLANDS: Hangar 24 brings together music, beer and food for St. Patrick’s Day

If one day of partying in honor of St. Patrick isn’t enough for you, Hangar 24 Brewery in Redlands might be your spot this weekend.

The brewery’s tasting room will have a three-day long celebration, from Saturday through Monday, for the day named after the man who drove the snakes out of Ireland.

The music lineup includes some of the best artists from the Inland Empire.

On Saturday, March 15, ColeSlaw will perform from 1 to 3 p.m.; D.on Darox & the Melody Joy Bakers are on from 4 to 6 p.m. and Strangebrew Band will close out the music from 7 to 10 p.m.

On Sunday, March 16, the fantastic music of the Paper Crowns will be heard from 2 to 5 p.m.

Finally, on Monday, March 17, the party will wrap with music from the 4:00-5:15pm Dark Isle Pipe Band/Scottish Rejects from 4-5:15 p.m. and the always incredible music of The McKintree Boys will close the celebration from 7 to 10 p.m.

The music is free and open to all ages, but you must be 21 to drink.

POMONA: Inland Empire Strikes Back Tour wraps at the Glass House

After touring around the Western U.S., the Inland Empire Strikes Back Tour is coming back home for a grand finale at the Glass House in Pomona on Friday, March 14.

Cromwell, Dose of Adolescence , One Hundred Proof , Low Life Music and Assuming We Survive not only make fantastic music of their own, they have also been and role models for supporting and building the Inland music scene.

The tour has taken them to Utah and Nevada in addition to dates around California.

CORONA: Indica Roots, Defunked play M15 on Friday

Inland bands inspired by ska music will take the stage at M15 in Corona on Friday, march 14.

Longtime scenesters Indica Roots and Defunked will top the bill.

Other bands performing include Oceanside Sound System, Failed to Victory, The Steady 45s and PCH.

And because you can’t have a ska show without a band name referencing pop culture, Stupid Flanders is also on the schedule.

RIVERSIDE: Metal band Sangre to play Mission Tobacco Lounge

Inland metal band Sangre is back with a local show. The band is headlining a night of rock at the Mission Tobacco Lounge in Riverside on Satrday, March 15.

The band hasn’t played in the area for awhile, working on a new record after two tours around the U.S., including a stint opening for Molotov.

The new material will be out soon, but be prepared to be rocked at Saturday’s show.

Also on the bill are The Blackout Experiment, Embod, Will of the Flesh and Clearview.

FONTANA: Billy Ray Cyrus to perform before Auto Club 400

Before he was known as Hannah Montana’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus was a country star in his own right. And while his music may not have inspired memes a la daughter Miley’s twerking, it did inspire a line dance.

He of the “Achy Breaky Heart” (the song and the dance) will perform a pre-race concert at the Auto Club 400 on Sunday, March 23.

The pre-race concert starts at 10 a.m. on the O’Reilly Auto Parts Fan Zone main stage.

And speaking of “Achy Breaky Heart,” “Achy Breaky Heart Pt. 2,” featuring hip hop artist Buck 22, cracked the Billboard Top 100 earlier this year.

RIVERSIDE: Boz Scaggs, Los Lobos lead new downtown shows

The Fox Performing Arts Center and Riverside Municipal Auditorium have announced a new batch of shows going on sale.

Marisela, a Latina pop star who rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s, will perform at the Fox on Thursday, April 24. Tickets are $30-$53, before fees.

The Beatles Vs. Stones won’t be the only tribute show at the Muni. No Doubt tribute No Duh will be at the venue on Friday, April 25. Tickets are $12, before fees.

San Diego reggae band Tribal Seeds will perform at the Muni on Saturday, May 24. Tickets are $28-$38, before fees.

Boz Scaggs and Los Lobos have both performed at the Fox, but never on the same bill. The man responsible for the “Lido Shuffle” and the band responsible for “Kiko” will share a night at the venue on July 17. Tickets are $55-$99.50, before fees.

For all of the shows, tickets go on sale to the public at noon Friday., March 14. Pre-sales begin Tuesday, March 11 for Marisela and on Wednesday, March 12 for Boz Scaggs and Los Lobos.

STAGECOACH 2014: Festival tickets have sold out

Passes for the Stagecoach Country Music Festival have sold out.

The three-day concert is set for April 25-27 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.
The festival posted the massages “Passes sold out, y’all,” on its website and social media on Friday morning.

This year, the festival will feature headlining sets from Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Eric Church. Other performers include up-and comers such as Florida Georgia Line and Hunter Hayes as well as country rock classics such as Michael Nesmith, Asleep at the Wheel and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Some Stagecoach tickets have been reserved for Coachella Valley residents and will be put on sale at a later time with details forthcoming.

Coachella Valley residents will also have a chance to purchase tickets for Stagecoach sister event the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which will run April 11-13 and April 18-20 at the Empire Polo Club. Public tickets for Coachella, which will feature Arcade Fire, Muse and Outkast, sold out within a few hours after going on sale in January.
