MERRY MELTDOWN: Sick Puppies demand attention

Sick Puppies have played X103.9’s Christmas show every year.

The Australian trio embodies the spirit of hard rock that the San Bernardino station champions.

From the time the combo got to the stage, it was an onslaught of rock, with leader Shim Moore bounding around the stage with fury, but also melody, backed up by the rhythmic thunder of bassist Emma Anzai and drummer Mark Goodwin.

MERRY MELTDOWN: Lit lights up Ontario crowd

Orange County’s Lit was the second band to take the stage at X103.9’s Merry Meltdown on Sunday evening.

Bounding around the stage, the group opened with “You Tonight,” off the band’s new album, “The View from The Bottom.”

I’m going to be at X103.9’s Merry Meltdown show tonight and I’ll be Tweeting.

I’m really excited to see local guys Dose of Adolescence open the show, but I also have a soft spot for most of the bands on the bill. I always love seeing Lit live and I really like their new record. I first interviewed P.O.D. when I was at Australian Rolling Stone 10 years ago and Sick Puppies are from Australia and knew my bosses and colleagues there.

AUDIO FILES: Listen to New Kids on the Block’s Christmas album

You wouldn’t believe how many New Kids on the Block songs I still know by heart. I remember listening to both Led Zeppelin and NKOTB in third grade and when the band came out with its Christmas album “Merry, Merry Christmas,” a friend made me a cassette copy until I was able to buy my own.

I just feel like something fun today, so the post won’t feature anything else NKOTB-related (although I will say that seeing them at the Staples Center in 2008 was one of the best birthday presents ever).
