RIVERSIDE: Inland Empire Record Collective returns Saturday, May 17

In November, I had such a blast attending the Inland Empire Record Collective’s event in Downtown Riverside. I didn’t even have a working turntable at the time and bought a bunch of vinyl from dozens of vendors. (My favorite finds of the day were L.L. Cool J’s “Radio” and a maxi-single of “If I Can’t Change Your Mind” from Sugar.)

Anyway, the event is celebrating its first anniversary with an event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Lot #6, behind Worthington’s Tavern and Back to the Grind. There will be 40-plus record vendors and booths with clothing and other items. There will also be two stages of live music and DJs from the Inland area inside Worthington’s and on the back patio.

The performers include Vicky & the Vengents, Dirty Soap, New Way On, DJ Inform, Habitat, Red Beef, Skunk Dub, DJ Curse, Illuminated Eyes and Kaelah & Micah Justice.

How did the Inland Empire Record Collective start?
The record collective concept/ idea was actually sparked out of a desire amongst a small group of friends to bring a unique record show experience with diverse record vendors of all genres to the Inland Empire. After attending numerous record shows in Los Angeles, San Diego, & Orange County, we decided to bring a similar experience “close to home.”

How many events have you done?
This is our third event and also our one year anniversary. We are expecting 40-plus record vendors and an assortment of other clothing , art and artisan booths. We will also have two stages with live bands and DJs from all over the Inland Empire.

What should people know before coming to the event?
This event is for the whole community. From young to wise. Make sure to bring your record bags because you are sure to find albums you never thought you would see. There will be music all day including bands and dj’s spinning all vinyl records. No computers here.

We a super excited to bring this event to Riverside, our home. If you love music, art, and community you will be sure to love this event.

RIVERSIDE: Bacon returns after a year on the backburner

After taking nearly a year off, Riverside’s Bacon will be back in action at Mission Tobacco Lounge in Riverside on Saturday night.

The show features some other noteworthy rock bands from the region, including metal band O Zorn, rock band Za and hard rock/metal band Desolate the Few.

RIVERSIDE: Coheed and Cambria headed to the Muni

Modern prog punkers Coheed and Cambria will kick off the tour celebrating 2003 breakthrough album “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3” at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium on Friday, Sept. 5.

The band will play the album in its entirety, including the catchy “A Favor House Atlantic,” which is on the record.

Tickets for the Riverside show go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and are $35, before fees. You can pick them up online at www.livenation.com or at the box office of the Fox Performing Arts Center at 3801 Mission Inn Ave. in Riverside.

The box office is open Monday through Friday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on show days until show time. You can also call the box office at 951-779-9800.

COACHELLA 2015: Dates announced, advance tickets on sale May 16

Promoter Goldenvoice has announced the dates and advance ticket information for the 2015 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The festival will take place April 10-12, 2015 and April 17-19, 2015 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.

A limited number of passes will go on sale Friday, May 16 at 10 a.m. and will stay on sale while supplies last. This early on-sale is the only opportunity to use the monthly installment plan to purchase Coachella passes.

The festival, which typically announces its lineup in January, three months ahead of the event, consistently sells out and opens the summer festival season. This year’s installment featured OutKast, Muse and Arcade Fire, among more than 180 other acts.

The prices include all fees, except for international shipping. A general admission pass is $375; general admission with a shuttle pass is $435; a VIP pass is $799; a VIP parking pass is $150; both car camping and tent camping are $85 per spot; companion camping parking is $30.

There are also luxury camping packages available, ranging from $2,350 to $7,000.

The advance sale tickets will be on sale via www.coachella.com.

CORONA: Skid Row, Black Star Riders top Rock Fest

Skid Row, a band that holds the record of being the first heavy metal band to have an album debut at the top of the Billboard charts (1991’s “Slave to the Grind), will be at M15 in Corona this weekend.

The group, which broke into the mainstream in the late 1980s with the morality tale “18 and Life” (the rule: don’t get drunk and shoot your friend) and ballad “I Remember You,” will release a new EP titled “United World Rebellion—Part 1” in August.

The Corona show also includes Black Star Riders, which are the members of Thin Lizzy who recorded new material, but not under the Thin Lizzy name.

The concert, dubbed Rock Fest 3, also features local bands, including Vizionz.

SAN BERNARDINO: Rascal Flatts tickets on sale May 9

Individual tickets for Rascal Flatts’ Saturday, Aug. 16 show at San Manuel Amphitheater go on sale Friday, May 9 at 10 a.m.

The concert will also feature Sheryl Crow and Gloriana.

Tickets are $16.25-$99.75, before fees, and will be available via www.livenation.com.

Camping on site at Glen Helen Regional Park will be an option for the Rascal Flatts show. There are packages for RV or tent camping and passes are $50 for cars and $100 for RVs. The camping options will also be available for the other country shows at the venue, including Toby Keith on May 30 and Blake Shelton on Oct. 5.

FOX: Houghs add second show, Ozomatli and Matisyahu tickets on sale Friday

Julianne and Derek Hough are so popular that the dancing siblings have added a second show to their Riverside stop this summer.

The “Move Live” tour, which already had an 8 p.m. show at the Fox Performing Arts Center on Saturday, July 19, will also have a 3 p.m. matinee show the same day. There are only a handful of tickets for the nighttime show, but tickets for the afternoon performance go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, May 9. Tickets are $35-$65, before fees.

Also on sale this week at the Fox is a Saturday, Aug. 30, date with Matisyahu, Ozomatli and Makua Rothman.

Matisyahu, who rose to fame with reggae-rap hit “King Without a Crown,” has been going in more of an alt-rock direction in recent years. His new album, “Akeda,” will be out June 3.

World music group Ozomatli just had a big show with Los Lobos (who have officially been added to the Boz Scaggs gig July 17 at the Fox) and their summer tour dates include multiple stops with Matisyahu. Tickets are $35-$45, before fees and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

Also, Minnesota R&B group Mint Condition, which had hits with “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)” and “What Kind of Man Would I Be?” will perform at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium on Friday, Oct. 17.

Tickets, $19.50-$39.50, go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

SAN BERNARDINO: Dada Life bringing DJ sets, hot air balloon (Updated)

Swedish DJ duo Dada Life is coming to San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore this summer as part of its Dada Land: The Voyage tour, which the duo claims will be the “World’s First DJ Tour via Hot Air Balloon.”

There aren’t a ton of details just yet, but the 18 and older event is an overnighter and starts at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 19.

Dada Life will also perform two sets—one a classic set once the duo arrives via hot air balloon and the other is a main performance at the end of the night. Briilz, Madeon, Mercer and Morgan Page are among the other performers announced so far for the event.

Among the amenities promised are a bouncy castle, balloon rides and scavenger hunts.

Tickets, are on sale now and are $40 before fees. You can pick them up over at www.livenation.com. Camping is $75 for one night, $120 for two nights.

COACHELLA FESTIVAL: Take a survey on transportation

Luci Gaines, an avid Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival fan and longtime attendee of the festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, is working on a project on how Goldenvoice and the City of Indio can improve transportation to and from Coachella.

She’s looking for folks who have been to Coachella to share their experiences, whether you’ve driven, taken a shuttle, taxi, or bicycled into Indio for the event.

RIVERSIDE: Local musicians celebrate Cinco de Mayo inside the Fox

Every Monday night for the last couple of months, Patrick Maloney, a longtime Riverside musician and supporter of local music, has been hosting an open mic night inside the Preview Bar at the Fox Performing Arts Center.

On Monday, May 5, the night moves to the big room at the theater for one night only with some of the most notable performers who have come through the night.

Among the artists scheduled to perform are Bob & Lisa, The Dangers, Mark Nemetz & The Novas, Matt Coleman, The Union Drifters, The Angry Babies, The Sedans, Old Brown Shoe, Fred and Gayle, Patrick Maloney Sr., Roadside Ghost, Charlie Moon, Travis Miller Music, Strange Indeed, Kevin Darish, Michael Soy, Salty Raisins, Mike Faust, Sounds of Earth, Jaxx Sessions and Stephanie Dianne Moore.

The series has been very important in providing a space for local musicians to meet and network and perform.
