How many places can you enjoy both chili and the music of local reality television contestants?

Luckily you can enjoy the music of former “X Factor” contestants The Brewer Boys and Michael Austin, former contestant on “The Voice” and singer of Austin Law, at the Chili Cook-Off, Beer and Wine Festival at the Ramona Bowl Amphitheatre on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Inland radio station 101.3 The Mix is putting on the event.

If the kitchen is your performance area rather than the stage, you can enter the chili competition. There are four categories for the International Chili Society-sanctioned event: red chili, chili verde, salsa and People’s Choice. You can register at www.1013TheMix.com.

The event runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and some of the proceeds will benefit the Ramona Bowl. Advance tickets are $15 for general admission and $8 for guests ages 6 to 12. Kids 5 and younger get in for free. The passes go up to $20 at the door. You can get them online at the Ramona Bowl website.

The Brewer Boys have incredible harmonies and rootsy Americana sensibilities. Here’s a recent video of the Temecula brothers performing a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Boxer.”

Austin Law puts on more than a mere concert–it’s an experience. Here’s lead singer Michael Austin on “The Voice.”

Even though i watch most of my music videos on YouTube these days (or over at the PE Live page), MTV still has the Video Music Awards.

This year, Miley Cyrus will be hosting the ceremony in Brooklyn on Aug. 25 and in a promo clip for the show, you can see the Inland Empire’s very own Nathan Rivera performing the first bit of her song “We Can’t Stop.”

Rivera has been getting some attention for it, so he posted his full version of the song.

I may be a little biased, but I think where Rivera shines the most is on his original music.

Rivera and friend and musical collaborator Shine Delphi did a PE Live session with us a while back. Here’s “Cold Silence.” Let the video keep playing to hear all of the songs and an interview with the pair.

Today in the “I Can’t Make This Stuff Up” file we have Nikki Sixx, of Motley Crue fame, headed to Ontario on Friday, Aug. 16.

That part isn’t so unbelievable–Sixx and the Crue have been frequent visitors to the Inland Empire over the years. The part where it gets weird is that the appearance is to celebrate the grand opening of a NAPA Auto Parts store in Ontario.  Sixx and Kerri Kasem, who co-hosts his “Sixx Sense” will appear at the store. (NAPA is one of the sponsors of the show).

Then, when you think it can’t get weirder, it does–Blue October, which had a radio hit with “Hate Me,” will perform an acoustic set at the store.

The appearance is free, but if you shell out $20 in auto parts at the store, you could get two wristbands to meet and get your photo with Kasem and Sixx while supplies last. Just think, for the price of an air filter or a couple of quarts of motor oil you can meet the man responsible for “Shout at the Devil.”

Call the store at 951-360-0192 for more information.

4-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, NAPA Auto Parts, 2191 Burgundy Place, Ontario, free.

I’m pretty sure the Crue’s “Kickstart My Heart” is appropriate video for this post. You’re welcome.

Riverside’s Late Night Revival has a big show at The Glass House on Saturday, Aug. 17 supporting the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

Late Night Revival released one of my favorite local records of 2012. It’s radio-friendly pop-rock worth a listen.

Visit Late Night Revival on Facebook for more information.

Check out the band’s video for “Angel & Me.”

With the sale of the Fender Center for the Performing Arts to the City of Corona, there may be one less venue around (FYI, the Kids Rock Free Program will still be in the building for a year and will continue in a new location).

But there is at least one more local show happening at the Rhythm Lounge.

Corona bands Castle Pines and City of Thieves will perform as well as Los Angeles-based bands Nature By Numbers and Perceptionist.

7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, Rhythm Lounge at the Fender Center for the Performing Arts, 365 N. Main St., Corona, $5, 18 and older only.

Here’s Castle Pines talking a little bit about what they do in an interview on PE Live. Let the video keep playing to watch the performances, too. (We release new PE Live videos every week).

ColeSlaw isn’t just a picnic treat. The Inland-based duo features two of the most talented musicians in the area (Chad Villarreal and Matt Coleman) and really fun music that spans multiple genres and has a fun, free energy on the stage.

We recently caught up with ColeSlaw at Hangar 24 and filmed a recent performance. Watch “Potion” below and catch the interview and the other performances by just letting the video play.

You can see a total of 75 videos from Inland musicians at the PE Live home at http://x.pe.com/PE_Live.

We’ll be filming a future PE Live at Hangar 24 on Wednesday, Aug. 14 with The Great Late, who I just wrote about in this week’s Audio File.

With this addition of ColeSlaw to the PE Live playlist, we’re up to 75 videos of music and interviews from Inland Empire artists.

ColeSlaw is made up of two incredibly talented musicians, Chad Villarreal and Matt Coleman, and I’m thrilled to feature them on PE Live. Matt was actually one of the first artists to come in the studio when we first did the show five years ago.

We recently caught up with the pair at the Hangar 24 Brewery Tasting Room in Redlands. Here’s one of the performances, “Come and Go.” If you let the video keep playing, the interview and other performances will appear.

Like the music? See the band live this weekend.

ColeSlaw will perform at Sorrel Bistro in Temecula on Friday, Aug. 9, The Vault Martini Bar in Redlands on Saturday, Aug. 10 and Killarney’s in Riverside on Sunday, Aug. 11.

The Dial in Murrieta is hosting a show with Boston punk band Opposition Rising on Wednesday, Aug. 14.

The show will also include a number of local bands, too. Riverside’s Slow Children, Sun City’s Ready Steady Go and Murrieta’s Devastation are also on the bill.

Plus, Too Much Beer will be driving up from Escondido. Of course, The Dial is an alcohol and drug free venue, so maybe it will be Too Much (Root) Beer instead.

Admission is $5 before the first band and $7 after. Also, attending a show at the venue now requires a $2 membership that lasts for six months.

8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, The Dial, 41679 Date St., Suite B, Murrieta, all ages.
