SAN BERNARDINO: Rock the Bells adds artists, offers single day tickets

The Rock the Bells festival, which heads to San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore on Sept. 7 and 8, has announced a final round of artist additions as well as single-day tickets.

The festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, has added supergroup A$AP Mob (featuring A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Ant, A$AP Twelvy and A$AP Nast), Joey Bad… and Pro Era, Stalley, Young Dirty … and The Internet to all of the shows.

The San Bernardino festival dates, which are the Los Angeles area shows, will also include Trinidad James and Action Bronson.

Other performers already announced for the show include Wu-Tang Clan, Jurassic 5, Kid Cudi and more.

The festival has also announced single-day tickets. You can see the individual lineup dates for the San Bernardino show at the Rock the Bells website. Single-day tickets for San Manuel Amphitheater will be $89 each, plus fees, until Aug. 18, when the prices go up to $99 each. For VIP, tickets are listed at $189 per day. A two-day general admission pass is $165 and a two-day VIP pass is $399.

One of the other big things about this year’s Rock the Bells is the holograms that will be on stage. While the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival brought hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur back to life with Dre and Snoop back in 2012, Rock the Bells is doubling the hologram fun.

Eazy-E will be with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony on Sept. 7 and O.D.B. will join Wu-Tang Clan on Sept. 8, but at first there reports of hologram rights issues.

Rock the Bells founder Chang Weisberg said this in the press release:
Despite initial reports of problems with rights clearances, I’m very pleased to announce that the estates are both 100 percent on board. Furthermore, not only are the families on board with the virtual performances, they are actually participating with the creation of them. This ensures the authenticity and integrity of the performances. It’s a monumental moment for music and technology that Eazy’s and ODB’s children have lent their DNA to these historic performances. Their bodies, faces, and voices have been captured to help recreate their fathers’ avatars. The process has been extremely rewarding to say the least. Seeing family members honoring their fathers in such a unique way has been incredible to witness.

There’s also a really cool contest the festival is running to give a winner in every market (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C. and New York) a prize that includes seeing the soundcheck for the virtual performances of O.D.B. and Eazy-E. SAN BERNARDINO: Nocturnal Wonderland adds camping option

Nocturnal Wonderland, an electronic dance music festival that was previously held at the National Orange Show, is moving to San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore on Saturday, Sept. 21 and the event is also offering camping.

This is the first year that camping has been offered for select concerts at the venue, which is nestled inside Glen Helen Regional Park.

The first event with camping at the amphitheater was the Mumford and Sons show in early June. The upcoming Brad Paisley performance on Aug. 24 also has a camping option.

The camping for Nocturnal Wonderland will be open Friday, Sept. 20 and closes at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22. You have the option to camp Friday and Saturday nights or just Saturday.

Camping passes are $75 for the two nights for a car/truck and $125 for an RV. The Saturday night camping pass is $50 for a car/truck and $100 for an RV. You must be at least 18 and have a ticket for the festival to camp.

Camping passes and tickets are available via Live Nation.

Here are some of the rules for camping:

There is quiet time from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Leave your drugs, weapons, fireworks, kegs, beer bongs, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia at home.

Here’s a list of Live Nation’s recommend items for camping:
-A tent
-Clothing for all temperatures – the nights can be chilly.
-Sunscreen/sunblock.
-Your happy smiley face ready to have some fun.

There are also water slides available in the park.

This will be the second of four EDM events the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved venue operator Live Nation to hold during the year. The first one, Beyond Wonderland, happened in March and was a success.

TEMECULA: Truth Under Attack, Chin Up Rocky to play The Vault

The “… It Feels Good to Be a Gangstour” is coming to Temecula on Friday, Aug. 9 with Truth Under Attack and Chin Up Rocky.

The show will be at The Vault and also include Magnolia, Welcome to Now, Go for Gold, Fly By Night and Dip.

RIVERSIDE: Debonaires, Agggrolites and more jam downtown

The Summer Street Jam returned to Riverside on Saturday, Aug. 3 with performances by The Aggrolites, The Debonaires, Tribal Lust and the Horny Natives and The Pac Men.

The free concert event attracted fans along University Avenue between Lemon and Orange Streets.

We recently filmed at Hangar 24 Brewery in Redlands with local indie rock band Swiss Alps. The band started as a solo project, but has evolved into a full band.

COACHELLA 2014: Why Neutral Milk Hotel is likely for lineup

Hipsters all over freaked out with happiness when the ever-elusive Neutral Milk Hotel said they would be returning to the stage for a major reunion tour and earlier this week, the band announced a batch of tour dates for 2014.

While it doesn’t have the 2014 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival listed, I think it’s highly likely we’ll see Neutral Milk Hotel at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.

Here’s why:

1. The last announced U.S. tour date is Texas in February. That leaves the spring for the West Coast. Plus, the other international dates announced are booked for after Coachella 2014.

2. Reclusive singer Jeff Mangum performed at Coachella 2012, with an intimate set on the Outdoor Theater stage (no photos allowed for that performance–even the video screens were off) that was very well-received.

3. Coachella LOVES reunions. Other than The Replacements, who make their return to the stage at RiotFest, this is the other major reunion that is actually happening so far that fits the Coachella bill.

HEMET: Beisbol premieres video filmed in hometown

Brothers Ryan and Jeff Burian are in the fantastic indie rock band Beisbol, which they formed in their hometown of Hemet. (I did a write up on Beisbol when they came to town a couple of months ago.)

The band, which is now based in Portland, Ore., released a new album, “Lo-Fi Cocaine,” earlier this year and the group has released a video for the single “Nothing Strange.” The video was filmed in Hemet.

The clip features their friend Roman Murray and was directed by Emilee Booher.

From the press release:

“We truly wanted a video that represented us and the song, so filming in Hemet, CA and having our best friend as the main character really gave us that opportunity,” explained Ryan and Jeff. “Hemet is where we are from and where all of our first musical experiences happened. Emilee sort of blew our minds capturing where we came from and doing it with all our hometown friends made it all the better.”

More indie rock needs a trumpet. Cue Redlands’ Swiss Alps.

The band, started by Nick Espalin, whose first musical instrument was the trumpet, recently played Hangar 24 Brewery’s patio in Redlands. We were on hand to talk to the band and film some of their songs.

CLAREMONT: Eva and the Vagabond Tales play the Hip Kitty

Riverside’s Eva and the Vagabond Tales are headed to the Hip Kitty to share their Eastern European-inspired folk music.

The free show will feature both new and old songs from the band.

They have been working on mixing their new CD and recently returned from traveling around the U.S.

7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, Hip Kitty, 502 W. First St., Claremont, free, 21 and older only.
