RIVERSIDE: Luicidal and Sick Sense to play Mission Tobacco Lounge

Luicidal, which features members of the original lineup of Suicidal Tendencies and the Inland’s own Sick Sense, will perform at Mission Tobacco Lounge on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The band will perform originals and some of the classic Suicidal Tendencies catalog.

Singer Mando Ochoa will be on stage twice during the evening, first with Sick Sense and then with Luicidal.

The Cheated and Pull Punch N Pray will also perform.

9 p.m. Saturday, Mission Tobacco Lounge, 3630 University Ave., Riverside, $8 before 10 p.m., $10 after, 21 and older only.

CORONA: Lynch Mob to perform at M15 Saturday

One of the greatest guitar heroes of the 1980s, George Lynch, will stop by M15 in Corona this weekend with his band Lynch Mob.

Lynch was behind the riffs in the hits from the band Dokken.

His newest group, KXM, also features Doug Pinnick of King’s X (who will be at M15 on March 1) and Ray Luzier of Korn.

The current incarnation of Lynch Mob includes Lit bassist Kevin Baldes, too.

Other upcoming shows include Alien Ant Farm on Feb. 28, Puddle of Mudd on March 8, Mike Tramp of White Lion on March 20, The Outlaws on March 28, Tierra on March 29 and Anna Nalick on April 19.

Tickets for Lynch Mob are $20 if you buy them at the door but are also available via Ticketmaster for an additional fee.

MUSIC: Neon Trees to visit SoCal in June

Neon Trees will celebrate the April 22 release of new album “Pop Psychology” with a headlining tour that heads to Los Angeles on June 14.

The band, whose singer Tyler Glenn and guitarist Chris Allen hail from Murrieta, will perform at The Wiltern for the only Southern California date announced at this point.

Smallpool and Nightmare & the Cat will open the show.

The band’s latest single, the new wave influenced “Sleeping With a Friend,” has been getting airplay on local radio stations and the group has already performed it on a number of late night talk shows.

Tickets for the June show go on sale at www.livenation.com at 10 a.m. Friday and are priced at $20-$25, before fees.

COACHELLA 2014: Catch these festival acts around SoCal

Bummed that you didn’t get tickets for the 2014 Coachella Valley music and Arts Festival in the hours before they sold out?

Don’t fear, Localchella is back. Goldenvoice has announced more shows for the bands playing the festival. Now that GV is booking The Roxy in West Hollywood, too, there’s another venue in the mix.

Of note: There’s a “Special Guest” at the Pomona Fox on Thursday, April 10. I’m wondering if we might see The Replacements or Neutral Milk Hotel, the two biggest names I think are missing from this lineup.

I’m excited for Afghan Whigs and Brody Dalle at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown on April 10 and Haim at the Pomona Fox on April 16.

MUSIC: Devo guitarist Bob Casale dies at 61

Bob Casale, guitarist and one of the original members of new wave pioneers Devo, has died. He was 61.

Casale’s brother Gerald, a founding member of Devo, posted the news that his brother died on Feb. 17 of heart failure on the band’s website.

“As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches with me from the beginning.
He was my level-headed brother, a solid performer and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got.
He was excited about the possibility of Mark Mothersbaugh allowing Devo to play shows again.
His sudden death from conditions that lead to heart failure came as a total shock to us all.”

Devo, which started as a performance art project at Kent State University in the 1970s, landed a record deal and became one of the icons of the new wave movement.

Devo’s visual side played well to the then-emerging MTV in the early 1980s, with the hit “Whip It,” complete with a video featuring the band members wearing the red plastic flowerpot hats that became synonymous with their image.

In August of 1980, the band played was scheduled to play two shows in Riverside at Raincross Square, but after technical difficulties, the second show was canceled and a riot ensued. The band later came back to play the second show.

In 2010 Devo released the album “Something for Everybody” and later went on tours and played at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino.

RIVERSIDE: Jason Mraz brings special acoustic show to the Fox (updated)

UPDATE 2/19: The Fox has added a second Jason Mraz show.

The Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside has snagged a special acoustic appearance from Jason Mraz for its calendar.

The radio-friendly singer-songwriter, known for his catchy pop rock hits such as “I’m Yours,” “The Remedy” and “You and I Both,” is doing a special run of West Coast tour dates.

He’s only performing eight shows and the lone Southern California gig is at the Fox on March 27.

Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 21 at noon, with an artist fan club and a Citi pre-sale happening on Wednesday and Thursday. The tickets are $63.50-$85.50, before fees.

SAN BERNARDINO: Mayhem Festival will return to San Manuel Amphitheater

Heavy metal fans rejoice–the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival will kick off its annual run in Devore once again.

This year, the tour will hit 24 venues, beginning with San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore on July 5.

The lineup of artists won’t be announced until March 31, but organizers have said that this year’s festival will include four stages of music and 19 bands. There will also be a freestyle Motocross and a Motorsports exhibition area.

Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, April 5.

RIVERSIDE: Larry the Cable Guy, Tech N9ne booked for downtown venues

The acts just keep on coming for the Fox Performing Arts Center and Riverside Municipal Auditorium, with a new batch of performers announced for the downtown Riverside venues.

The Fox will see the 30th anniversary of the Happy Together tour with Flo & Eddie of The Turtles, Mark Farner, Mitch Ryder, Gary Lewis and the Playboys and former Three Dog Night singer Chuck Negron on Wednesday, July 16 and two shows from comedian Larry the Cable Guy on Friday, Sept. 12.

Tickets for Happy Together are priced at $35.50-$65.50, before fees, and are $41-$96 for Larry the Cable Guy, before fees.

Meanwhile, the Riverside Municipal Auditorium will host rapper Tech N9ne on Tuesday, June 3, and the Beatles Vs. Stones musical tribute battle on Saturday, June 21. The Tech N9ne show is open to guests 18 and older and tickets are $23-$33, before fees. Tickets are $10-$18 for Beatles Vs. Stones, before fees.

Tickets for all of the newly announced shows will go on sale Friday, Feb. 21 at noon.

LAKE ELSINORE: Good Vibes on the Lake Festival makes debut

Lake Elsinore is getting a new music festival in town this weekend. The Good Vibes on the Lake Festival will run Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16 and feature sets from Sean Kingston, who just played Bear Mountain last week, E-40, Tribal Seeds, Tha Dogg Pound, Fortunate Youth, New Kingston, Marlon Asher, The Expanders, Spawnbreezie, Common Sense, Mystic Roots, Irie Love, Krooked Treez, Ezzrah, Go Gettas and Iya Terra.

The first-time festival will include food and craft vendors and a children’s play area.

10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, La Laguna Resort & Boat Launch, 32040 Riverside Drive, Lake Elsinore, $55 for a one-day pass, $75 for a two-day pass. Children 5 and younger get in for free.

If you want to purchase tickets on the day of the event, you must get them at the Lake Elsinore Outlets at 17600 Collier Ave., Suite A-107, in Lake Elsinore.

MUSIC: Babyface talks about lasting songs

I interviewed Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds a couple of weeks back for Friday’s Go + Do cover (he’s playing Spotlight 29 Casino on Friday, Feb. 14 ) and we got to talking about his back catalog.

He has worked with a staggering amount of artists from Aretha Franklin to Eric Clapton to the members of New Edition.

“It was always hard to tell whether you were writing something that was going to last forever,” he said. “The only test is that years later you listen to the radio and something comes on and whether it still feels good.”

He said some songs get better with time. I asked him to elaborate and he mentioned the songs from the 1990s he wrote for Bobby Brown and Johnny Gill

“I think the 90s music starting to feel really good now, to a lot of people. There was a positivity that was there that isn’t in a lot of things today, or over the past decade or so,” Edmonds said.

He also performs in Anaheim on Sunday, Feb. 16.
