It feels like a Pointer Sisters kind of day, probably because we’ve been talking about them here in the office.

AUDIO FILES: Listen to Semisonic, Death Cab for Cutie
I loved 2012, here’s hoping 2013 even better for all of us. Thanks for reading the Audio File this year!
Here are some songs about the New Year that I enjoy. Also, I promise you that the Semisonic song is not “Closing Time.” It’s “This Will Be My Year,” another great song off “Feeling Strangely Fine,” which I feel deserved more attention than just to be labeled as an album of a one-hit-wonder. Dan Wilson is an incredible songwriter and I love Semisonic.

AUDIO FILES: Listen to a Christmas playlist, Darlene Love
Good morning and if you celebrate it, Merry Christmas!
If you need some tunes to motivate you while you cook today or a soundtrack other than ripping through paper, here you go! It’s with a tear in my eye that it’s the final day for me to listen to Wham’s “Last Christmas” and The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping” on repeat before Charming Husband can legitimately request that I turn them off.

AUDIO FILES: Listen to The Beatles, John Lennon
We’re almost done with the very special Audio Files with my bizarre taste in Christmas music. And since it’s Christmas Eve, I thought I’d share a little holiday cheer.

AUDIO FILES: Listen to the Jackson 5
I think we all need a little happiness today and what better way to do that than listening to the Jackson 5?

AUDIO FILES: Listen to Tom Petty
Tom Petty rocks. Tom Petty at Christmas is even better.
I first heard “Christmas All Over” on “A Very Special Christmas 2,” and was pulled in by its drum intro.

AUDIO FILES: Listen to The Waitresses
Today’s Audio Files might be my favorite of the year–it’s time to shine a spotlight on The Waitresses, the new wave delight that is responsible for the best Christmas song ever.

AUDIO FILES: Listen to The Carpenters
Does anyone else out there have a Carpenters Christmas album? It’s beautiful and so sad at the same time. RIP Karen Carpenter, RIP.
Here’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

AUDIO FILES: Listen to The Kinks
Put tonight’s entry on the depressing Christmas songs list, but it has a great guitar riff. It’s The Kinks‘ “Father Christmas,” touching on materialism, classism, economic woes and beating up Santa Claus raising money for those less fortunate outside a department store. But did I mention that it has a great guitar riff?

AUDIO FILES: Listen to David Bowie, Bing Crosby
Has there ever been a stranger pairing in music than Bing Crosby and David Bowie?
I never get tired of the juxtaposition of these two, and the ridiculous premise that Bowie has no idea who Crosby is. I watch it every year even though they’re singing my least favorite Christmas carol, “Little Drummer Boy.”
