Amy Winehouse will perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on April 18, 2009.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival announcement is almost here.

In the meantime, the festival’s Web site has been updated and it looks like we have some ticket information for general passes and layaway plans.

The annual alternative music festival will be held at the Empire Polo Field in Indio April 17-19.
Three-day passes for the festival are $269, plus a $3 donation to charity and a single-day pass is $99, plus a $1 donation to charity.

For Coachella, concertgoers can put down a 50 percent deposit, plus Ticketmaster fees, with the remaining amount deducted on April 1. There is also a three-payment plan in which attendees can pay 10 percent of the total, plus fees, with the remaining amounts deducted in equal payments on March 1 and April 1.

According to Ticketmaster, passes for the show will go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday.

Although we don’t have a lineup yet, I did get one band, thanks to a press release. Fiction Records and Geffen Records sent over the tour itinerary of British band White Lies and it includes a stop at Coachella.

I’ll be updating here as soon as I get the information on the rest of the lineup and any other goodies.

In the meantime, enjoy our 2008 and 2007 Coachella archives. I can’t say enough about how amazing our photo staff is and what a great job they do at the festival, so definitely check out the slideshows.

Well, we should soon know about the 2009 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival lineup and the rumors are flying furiously.

The hot headliner one right now is Sir Paul McCartney himself. I love the Beatles. I love Wings. I love Macca’s solo work. But here is my question for you fellow Coachella-heads out there–is the festival his kind of crowd?

Also, in a completely random aside, have you ever noticed how surprised Paul always seems in pictures? It’s like “Oh, hello there, I wasn’t expecting you.”

While you ponder all of these mysteries, here’s a favorite Paul moment I’m sending along with love, from me, to you, from Amoeba in LA.

My Google alerts are going bananas with Coachella rumors. I thought we might want to talk about a few more.

Consequence of Sound has a list up. From their “confirmed” artists, I really want to see The Hold Steady, Airborne Toxic Event and Noah and the Whale.

I have a few things I’ve heard from my sources, but I want to keep the suspense going, which means I don’t trust anything until I get it from festival promoters Goldenvoice.

Who do you want to see this year?

If you know about Coachella, you know that as we get closer, fake posters start appearing with outlandish claims promising reunions and headliners.

Well, a British ‘zine, Loud & Quiet, is apparently talking to Pavement and they’ve been talking about a possible reunion at our favorite backyard festival.

Pavement is one of those bands where they weren’t a huge commercial success, but get a room of indie kids together and they all talk about how influential the band was. They split 10 years ago and went on to form other bands, such as Coachella vets Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks and the Preston School of Industry.

If they play Coachella, it will be a good reunion, but I wouldn’t expect them to headline.

Damon Albarn of Blur plays in L.A. in 1999. The Britpop band is reuniting next year and are part of the Coachella rumor mill. I’m just hoping they stock up on the sunscreen if they come out.

Question: Who loves Britpop?

Answer: Pretty much everyone who goes to Coachella.

And the kings of ’90s Britpop are back and I’m sure the Coachella fans are all googly eyed over the idea of a Blur reunion in Indio. I know I am.

The band has posted on its Web site that they will be reuniting next year, but there’s no mention of our favorite festival in the desert.

The band hasn’t been together since 2000.

This sounds like just the right reunion for Coachella this year. If you’ve been hiding under a rock or are new to the area, the festival has a history of bringing people back together (Rage, Jesus and Mary Chain, etc.).

I think this calls for an impromptu Britpop dance party in my cubicle. First up, “Girls & Boys.”
