The Red Rocker himself, Sammy Hagar, who just participated in Fontana’s centennial celebration, has announced details for a new album.

The new album, “Sammy Hagar and Friends” is full of collaborations, including some friends Hagar has recorded with before, such as Chickenfoot bandmates Michael Anthony, Chad Smith and Joe Satriani, as well as Bill Church and Denny Carmassi of Montrose.

The list also includes Kid Rock, Ronnie Dunn, Nancy Wilson and Neal Schon.

The 10-song album will be released Sept. 24 and has original and cover songs on it. Hagar also recorded with his son, Aaron, on the song “Father Sun.”

The covers include Bob Seger’s “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” and Depeche Mode “Personal Jesus.” I really can’t wait to hear how Sammy takes on Depeche Mode.

Here’s a little clip with Hagar, Schon, Anthony and Smith. It sounds like some of these might be on the new Hagar record.

In the meantime, the Red Rocker is celebrating his “Four Decades of Rock” summer tour, which will be Hagar and his solo band The Wabos, with friends and other bandmates joining him at various stops on the tour.

The closest that Sammy is getting to his hometown of Fontana is a stop at Del Mar Scene summer concert series on Saturday, July 27. The show is free, but it costs $6 to get into the racetrack.

With a little luck, I’ll be able to catch up with Sammy before the show. He’s one of my favorite interviews. He really is that much and still really just loves what he does.

Also, since it’s Friday, here’s a look Hagar finding the best rum drink on Maui.

Between the launch of our blog redesign and a big string of shows, it’s been a little hectic. However, Sammy Hagar was in the area  a couple of weeks back to celebrate the centennial of Fontana, his hometown.

Hagar was the Grand Marshal of the parade celebrating 100 years of Fontana on Saturday, June 1.

Hagar even posted about it on his website at RedRocker.com.

Nothing is as gratifying as being honored in your home town. For me it’s right up there with the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. Having a street named after ya (Hagar Way)– come on!!! Fontana has changed so much since 1970 when I left. If you would have blindfolded me, brought me there and showed me around I would not have known where I was.

Read the rest of what Hagar had to say about the honor.

The last time I interviewed Sammy a few years ago, we talked about Fontana and how he still drives by where he used to live on Valencia Avenue, Anastasia Avenue and Lemon Street when he is in town visiting siblings in the area.

He’s very down to earth and has never forgotten his Inland roots.

Hagar also stopped by the Mission Inn in Riverside during his trip.

Sammy Hagar’s new adventure

Fontana’s rockin’ son Sammy Hagar is launching a new radio station–Cabo Wabo Radio, on the eve of his 60th birthday, which the Red Rocker has deemed “All Sammy Eve.”

You can get a sneak preview starting at noon today at this Web site. This weekend’s programming is “The Cabo Wabo 55: Fifty Five Hours Of Music You Can’t Drive Without.” It ends on Monday. The station will broadcast from Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

We here at the Audio File headquarters figured out how many times you could listen to Hagar’s solo anthem to traffic tickets, “I Can’t Drive 55,” in 55 hours. The answer is 776.5 times. That’s a lot of Hagar.

Here’s a little something from the press release on the playlist:

Cabo Wabo Radio will feature nothing but feel-good, party energy, cutting edge New Rock from across the globe, with a huge catalog of the greatest and most exciting rock from the past twenty five years.
“Cabo Wabo Live” will feature interviews with stars on vacation and interesting people from around the world, and live concerts from major stars and the hottest new artists in the world. It’s a world party of biblical proportions.

Will there be any Van Halen played, and if so, will the David Lee Roth years be included as well? (Because let’s face it, nobody wants to listen to Gary Cherone Van Halen. Nobody ever did.)

I’m not exactly sure how this radio station will reach “biblical proportions,” unless Sammy contacts Noah and Moses, but live concerts sound fun. It’s kicking off with a live performance from Sammy’s 60th birthday party on Saturday night live at the Cabo Wabo Cantina. Apparently Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith and Emeril Lagasse are all going to be there. (Is it just me or does Emeril seem to not fit with the country stars?)

Apparently if you visit the Cabo Wabo Radio site over the weekend you can sign up to be a VIP member and find out when the station is actually launching. It’s expected to be up by the end of the year.

But being a VIP, which looks like it costs nothing at the moment, will also get you messages from Sammy, ticket opportunities, behind the scenes videos and special prices on trips to Cabo. Wait, what?

Is Sammy Hagar trying to sell me a timeshare?
